ExploreWe sat down with Ben Lewtas to learn more about his journey from trainee accountant to Corporate Finance Executive. In our conversation, he tells us a bit about his career so far, reflects on what drew him to accountancy, the support he’s received at Langtons, and what excites him most about the future of his career.

A: I joined Langtons in February 2019 as a trainee after finishing university with a Maths degree. I worked in audit and accounts while studying for my ACA qualification, which I completed in 2023. In July 2024, I moved into Corporate Finance.
A: When I finished university, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I explored various options and found that accountancy and the ACA route really appealed to me. I liked that it opened up a broad range of paths: corporate finance, tax, management accounts, and more. I’d always thought accountancy was just audits and producing accounts, but discovering the wider opportunities really interested me.
I also considered Data Analytics and even did a few interviews, but it didn’t excite me as a long-term career. What really sparked my interest in accountancy was a neighbour who shared his own experience in the profession. That conversation set me on the path I’m on today.
A: I just came across the trainee role online and sent in my CV. A few weeks later I had my interview with Eif Roberts. I immediately felt the atmosphere was positive and supportive. We talked about my career path, and I liked knowing I could be qualified in three years. We also chatted about Wales, rugby, and other things we had in common, which made it feel like the right fit.
A: I’d say that a firm like Langtons is a great fit for someone like me. The family atmosphere, the support, and the on-the-job learning really helped shape my career. I always have people around me who are willing to help, and the peer-training support was excellent. Over the years, Langtons has been very supportive in accommodating my interests and allowing my career to evolve in a direction that suits me.
A: I really enjoy the variety, things can change quickly, and no two jobs are the same. It’s been interesting seeing accounts from a different angle. I have been able to build upon the analytical skills learnt in my time in audit and apply those to strategic decision making in my Corporate Finance role.
I especially enjoy the due diligence side. It gives you a chance to dig into the underlying numbers, understand how they’ve been measured, and evaluate trends, whether they’re encouraging or concerning. It’s fascinating to see which deals progress, which don’t, and why.
A: I’ve really enjoyed being part of the social committee since it was established over two years ago. With more than 40 of us at Langtons and many working on hybrid schedules, the committee plays an important role in bringing everyone together throughout the year. This year alone, we’ve organised a variety of activities – from axe throwing and beer festivals to an office-themed ‘Traitors’ game (where I was banished early on!). We’re already planning next year’s events and organising the Christmas party games in the office. 2026 is shaping up to be another fun and engaging year!
A: I’m looking forward to seeing how my career continues to develop. I’m excited about taking on more responsibility and having the opportunity to lead more in the future. I’ve enjoyed learning the ropes, and I’m enthusiastic about putting that knowledge into practice.
A: When I’m given a difficult task and I complete it to a high standard, that’s a great feeling. I enjoy the Corporate Finance environment because it’s exciting and challenging.
